Worship

Our worship at Mt. Lebanon Christian Church is strongly based on what we believe.  What we believe is solely based on the inspired word of God.   The Disciples of Christ have no creeds or doctrines.  Our philosophy, if you will, is "No Creed But Christ".  Individual congregations have the freedom to worship in a fashion which best suits each community and allows them to best develop their relationship with Jesus and fulfill the mission of the church, to spread the word of the Gospel and bring people to Christ.  As stated in the Preamble of the Constitution and Bylaws of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Pennsylvania:

"The Church must earnestly strive to devise for each age, those forms best suited to its God-given purpose...."

Probably the best summary of our beliefs was written by Dr. Kenneth Teegarden, former General Minister:

"The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is a community of believers who through baptism into Jesus Christ are bound by covenant to God and one another.  Disciples draw their inspiration from Scripture and the Holy Spirit, celebrating around the Lord's Table the life, death, resurrection and continuing presence of Christ.  They proclaim the Good News of salvation and claim as their particular mission, the quest for Christian unity.   While stressing freedom and diversity under God, they believe unity and mission are inseparable and witness and serve among the whole human family in the interest of peace, justice, mercy and kindness."

Our beliefs are simple and solely based on the inspired Word of God.

bulletOur worship, inside and outside of our Sunday morning worship, is strongly based on prayer.  We believe that there is power in prayer and that through it, all things are possible.  We pray often, and from the heart. (Send a Prayer Request)
bulletWe believe that the celebration of the Lord's Supper is the spiritual center of our worship every Sunday.  The New Testament strongly implies that the Lord's Supper was observed as often as Christians gathered to worship.  Each person decides for themselves whether or not to share in this observance.  Communion is open to all who believe in Jesus Christ as the Son of the living God.
bulletAlthough we openly accept all forms of baptism, we practice and teach baptism by immersion for the remission of sins following an open confession of faith.  We believe, as the New testament teaches, that baptism is the immersion of a person old enough to believe that Christ is the Son of the Living God.
bulletOur worship emphasizes fellowship with one another as the body of Christ.  We come together as often as we can to strengthen our bond to God and one another.
bulletOur worship is enriched by music and song as an open expression of praise.  Our praise is lifted through hymn singing, various children and adult choirs, and individual talents.
bulletOur worship is not contained on Sunday mornings, but continues throughout the week whenever two or more of us come together in the fellowship of the Lord.
