“Growing in Service through Outreach”
“Truly I tell you, whatever you did for the least of these brothers and sisters of mine,
you did for me” ~ Matthew 25:40 (NIV)
April 2026 Service & Outreach
As part of MLCC’s commitment to Connect, Grow, and Serve, we invite you to support the international ministry of Week of Compassion, the relief, refugee, and development mission fund of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Through this offering, we join with congregations across the church to bring hope and help to neighbors around the world facing disasters, hunger, displacement, and poverty.
Your monetary gifts support emergency response as well as long-term recovery and sustainable development efforts, providing care for communities when they need it most. By giving, we live out Christ’s call to love our neighbors near and far, sharing compassion in practical and meaningful ways.
Please prayerfully consider making a donation to support this important ministry. Together, we can extend MLCC’s spirit of service beyond our walls and into the world.
Earth Day Cleanup: Care for God’s Creation
Please join us this Earth Day as we do our part to care for God’s creation.
Sunday, April 26 at Noon in the chapel. A light lunch will be provided. Volunteers will receive bags, gloves and vests and head out to clean up litter on our adopted section of Cochran Road. Thanks for doing your part to care for this beautiful world.
Lord, grant us the wisdom to care for the earth and till it.
Help us to act now for the good of future generations and all your creatures.
Help us to become instruments of a new creation,
Founded on the covenant of your love.

Helping Future DOC (Disciples of Christ) Leaders
Since its inception in January 1984, the Schnars Memorial Scholarship Fund—established by Dr. Clarence H. Schnars, the inaugural pastor of Mt. Lebanon Christian Church (MLCC), and his wife, Alliene—has served as a testament to the church’s dedication to nurturing those preparing for ministry within the Disciples of Christ (DOC) tradition. Carefully managed by the Church’s Trustees, this fund has grown considerably over time, enabling MLCC to make a substantial impact on aspiring DOC ministers and leaders.
Recognizing the potential to further invest in the next generation of church leaders, MLCC has partnered with Higher Education & Leadership Ministries (HELM), an organization committed to theological education and leadership development within the DOC community. In celebration of Dr. Clarence and Alliene Schnars, as well as the congregation of MLCC, HELM will now oversee the new Mt. Lebanon Christian Church / Schnars Graduate Scholarship, with the first award scheduled for Fall 2027.
While the specifics of the scholarship program are being finalized, MLCC’s Trustees and Board have approved a $10,000 distribution from the Schnars Memorial Fund this year to support HELM’s Global Theological Fellows program. This initiative is designed to help seminary students broaden their perspectives by connecting them with a cohort grounded in theology and oriented toward global issues. The funds are being used to directly assist these students as they approach the final stages of their spring studies. Additionally, HELM will also allocate a portion of these resources to strengthen scholarship offerings for students embarking on PhD and DMin programs this fall.
Through these efforts, MLCC is expanding its outreach and reinforcing its role as a catalyst for positive change—both within the church and beyond its walls—by empowering future leaders to serve with compassion and vision.
March 2026 Service & Outreach – RESULTS – National Pi Day with Pie!!!
Great results from out Pie Cook-Off Fundraiser in March. Not only did we have a great time together, but we raised $316 to support our neighbors at South Hills Interfaith Movement (SHIM), helping provide food, clothing, and essential services to neighbors in need throughout the South Hills community
Outreach Impact Activities in 2025
In 2025, the generosity, compassion, and faithful commitment of the Mt. Lebanon Christian Church community made a meaningful difference—near and far. Through your gifts, service, and love for neighbors, our congregation continued to live out Christ’s call to connect, grow, and serve.
Because of you, we were able to respond to urgent needs, strengthen vital community partners, and bring hope and joy to those who needed it most:
$130 donated to the American Red Cross to support flood relief efforts.
$650 given to Week of Compassion to assist communities impacted by flooding.
$320 donated to The Education Partnership, helping ensure teachers and students have the supplies they need to succeed
$637 and 345 pounds of food shared with SHIM, supporting food-insecure neighbors in our community
$671 plus coats and shoes donated to Washington City Mission, offering warmth, dignity, and care to those experiencing homelessness
$410 given to the Disciples Mission Fund Christmas Offering, supporting ministry across the PA/WV Region of the Disciples of Christ
Beyond financial giving, MLCC members shared time, creativity, and presence in beautiful ways. Residents of Kane Senior Living were reminded they are seen and loved through Valentine’s Day cards, Mother’s Day floral arrangements, and 44 Giving Tree gifts, all delivered during a joyful and festive MLCC caroling visit.
Thank you for being the heart and hands of Christ. Your generosity is not just measured in dollars and pounds—but in hope shared, relationships built, and lives touched. Together, MLCC continues to make God’s love visible in our community and beyond.
Ongoing Outreach Activities
